I’m new to Joomla and have not downloaded it yet, since I’ve read that many of its extensions can create problems…..I already have a website hosted on Angelfire.com which is like geocities and am familiar with HTML coding, some javascript and some DHTML and some graphics editing. So my two part question is: What is the best book to learn Joomla from and What else do I need before downloading it and trying to begin creating websites?
Chosen Answer:
Try reading this: http://docs.joomla.org/Beginners
Also make sure your hosting supports PHP and a MySQL database.
For Joomla you won’t really need html javascript etc unless you are going to start writing extensions.
As far as extensions – read the reviews. Extensions are usually easy to uninstall if you encounter a problem and most extensions have forums pages where questions / problems are usually answered quickly.
I have many websites in Joomla and also have written a couple of modules. I recommend trying Joomla out – you can easily build some brilliant websites.
